Dr. Borucki began researching the book about President Bush, the father of President George W. Bush, in 2008. He received grants from the O’Donnell Grant Program at Texas A&M University and Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Quality Initiative Grant Program to cover his travel to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The library is located on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
In researching the archives, Dr. Borucki said he was able to examine materials from the years leading up to Bush’s presidency, including documents from his time with the Central Intelligence Agency and his chairmanship of the Republican National Committee during the Watergate scandal.
“It was interesting to see how he interacted with the general public in the high offices he held,” Dr. Borucki said.
Dr. Borucki said he also examined the Bush family’s legacy of public service and the loyalty President Bush demonstrated toward his friends, including former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.
This book is Dr. Borucki’s first. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Michigan State University, his master’s degree in U.S. history from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and his doctorate in U.S. history from the University of Alabama, where he edited the journal Southern Historian from 1998 to 1999.
He has taught at PBA since 2003 and is part of the faculty in the University’s Supper Honors program.
