Alumna Anna Walker launched her skincare company this summer with entrepreneurial skills acquired during her time studying journalism at Palm Beach Atlantic.
Over the summer, she launched her skincare company, Dallas & James Skincare Co. She lives with her husband, Corey, a PBA alumnus, in New Hampshire.
Walker, who graduated in 2011, said her experiences in PBA’s journalism program gave her a “faith-based education with real-world experience.” Through the journalism program and her time as managing editor of The Beacon, Walker obtained valuable skills such as asking good questions, learning to research thoroughly, meeting with other entrepreneurs and having confidence in conversation. Her strong writing and visual skills are crucial elements in running her business, she said.
“All the experiences that seemed random come back to help you,” Walker said.
Journalism graduate Anna Walker started Dallas & James Skincare Co. using skills she learned editing The Beacon. She said time spent writing, editing, meeting deadlines and working on photography for the paper all contributed to her current success. She now uses those skills daily to write product descriptions, research, design website content and interview.
Although Walker loved working with the Beacon and writing for her journalism classes, her favorite aspect of PBA was the faith-based community. She said PBA prepared her for a career and to enter the real world with a solid foundation in God. PBA taught her to “think beyond herself” and her career, she said.
Looking back on her college years, Walker said “everything ends up making sense with God’s plan.”
