Shai Linne, a recording artist and author, called the Palm Beach Atlantic University community to compassion this week at Christival, a three-day event hosted by PBA’s Spiritual Development team.
Christival, a long-standing PBA tradition of praise and worship, began in the 1980’s and has since become PBA’s longest standing conference. This year’s event, held in Family Church, was no exception. Speaker Linne, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passionately called students to have hearts of compassion, a theme that prevailed through daily messages and worship led by Davy Flowers and The Worship Initiative.
Shai Linne’s extensive public speaking experiences at events such as The Gospel Coalition, Cross Con, and the Chopping Block Conference and Concert made his ‘Call to Compassion’ very effective in the lives of students this week. “Called to Compassion” was printed on the back of t-shirts thrown out to students at each midday and evening service.
On day one, Shai Linne opened the first message by asking PBA students, “What if it’s true?” He used this question to encourage students to acknowledge God and ask for acceptance, no matter what. He then highlighted things about God and things about Humanity to help students better understand the compassion we experience from God.
Nella Petersen, a sophomore studying business at PBA, shared her her personal experience of Christival’s final worship night, “I originally wasn’t going to go, because I had a long day and a lot of homework, but I’m so glad I did. The worship night made me feel very refreshed, and I was able to reconnect with God and rediscover his purpose for me.” Her statement completely reaffirms Christival’s mission of giving students time to rest and fix their eyes on God.
The final night was closed with a reading from Colossians 3:12, which says, “Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” This verse perfectly closed out the week.
