The University’s new Center for Biblical Leadership is taking shape under the direction of Dr. Sam Voorhies, with input and resources from other leaders in ministry and the marketplace.
Most recently, Dr. Chris Hall, president of the Christian nonprofit Renovaré, visited campus to discuss spiritual formation and leadership development with faculty and staff. Renovaré models, resources and advocates fullness of life with God experienced, by grace, through the spiritual practices of Jesus and of the historical church. Previously, Hall served as director of academic spiritual formation and distinguished professor of theology at Eastern University.
Last week, Voorhies led a strategic visioning session for the Center for Biblical Leadership with Hall and key faculty and staff from the School of Ministry, Catherine T. Catherine T. MacArthur School, Marshall E. Rinker Sr. School of Business and Student Development. They discussed, among other matters, the practical application of spiritual formation to leadership.
Voorhies joined the University following more than 25 years in leadership with World Vision, the international Christian humanitarian aid organization, and various executive leadership consulting roles. Voorhies and Hall worked together on the design and implementation of World Vision’s leadership and spiritual formation program, which graduated approximately 700 students from 60 countries with Master of Arts degrees in organizational leadership.
Next month, Jim Inglis, a former Home Depot executive and board member, will visit PBA to learn about the University and Center for Biblical Leadership. He will share his journey of faith-based leadership at the President’s Lyceum, a forum allowing a group of high-achieving students to interact with distinguished visitors.
The Center for Biblical Leadership in the Catherine T. Catherine T. MacArthur School is the University’s sixth center of excellence; the centers allow highly-motivated students to gain special expertise in a specific field. The center will engage marketplace leaders as well as the University faculty, staff and students.
The Center for Biblical Leadership will build on the University’s vision to produce graduates who are intellectually prepared, possess high moral character and demonstrate outstanding citizenship. Such graduates are servant leaders in their communities, the nation and the world. The center will equip them to integrate spiritual formation and biblical knowledge with their practice of leadership.
