Biography
Steve Vensel began his career in youth ministry with Miami Youth for Christ. Seeing firsthand the need for professional counseling, he became a licensed clinical social worker and provided clinical care at the Children’s Psychiatric Center, eventually becoming the clinic director. Steve directed a large Christian counseling practice for ten years, which allowed him to integrate biblical truth and concepts into professional practice. He became a Florida state-qualified supervisor across all three of the graduate counseling disciplines: marriage & family therapy, mental health counseling, and clinical social work. For six years, Steve served at a large family ministry, where he oversaw all aspects of four residential group homes for middle school aged children. He was also responsible for directing and staffing an outpatient family counseling center. Steve has been actively engaged in the development and clinical training of Christian counselors and has accrued in excess of 20 thousand hours of clinical and supervisory experience. Throughout his career Steve has also provided extensive ministry to clergy. His current research is focused on clergy forced-terminations through abusive workplace behaviors and its impact on clergy burnout, spiritual well-being and desire to permanently leave ministry. Steve has been married for 27 years to Dory and has two college-aged children.
