Biography
Dr. Andreas Köstenberger, a leading evangelical scholar with a worldwide reputation, is the research professor of biblical studies in the School of Ministry at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Dr. Köstenberger also serves as theologian in residence at Fellowship Raleigh. Together with his wife Marny, he is the founder of Biblical Foundations™, an organization devoted to the strengthening of biblical marriage and family in the home, the church, and society. The Köstenbergers are also appointees with Oasis Rest International (https://oasisrest.org), a hospitality ministry that helps Christian leaders find rest.
Köstenberger is the author, editor, or translator of over sixty books, including Biblical Theology (with Greg Goswell), God, Marriage and Family (a third edition is in preparation), Invitation to Biblical Interpretation, A Theology of John’s Gospel and Letters, and The Cradle, the Cross, and the Crown with Scott Kellum and Charles Quarles). He is also the editor or co-editor of major scholarly series such as Biblical Theology of the New Testament (BTNT), Evangelical Biblical Theology Commentary (EBTC), Evangelical Exegetical Commentary (EEC), and Exegetical Greek Guide to the New Testament (EGGNT). Andreas is currently working on commentaries on John’s Gospel, the book of Acts, and 1-2 Timothy and Titus in the Crossway Commentary on the Greek New Testament. His commentary on John’s Gospel in the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary is forthcoming. Translations of his works are available in languages such as Armenian, Dutch, Farsi (Persian), German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
Köstenberger served as the editor of the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society (JETS) for twenty-two years (1999–2020). He has served on the faculties of several seminaries including Briercrest Bible College, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He also taught at FamilyLife, Gulf Theological Seminary, Heritage College and Seminary, the Pastor’s College, Reformed Theological Seminary Charlotte, Shepherds Theological Seminary, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He delivered lectures at Beeson Divinity School, Cambridge University, Charleston Southern University, Christopher Newport University, the College of William & Mary, Columbia International University, Covenant Theological Seminary, Criswell College, the Freie Theologische Hochschule Giessen, Louisiana College, Midwester Baptist Theological Seminary, Ouachita Baptist University, and Wycliffe Hall (Oxford University).
Dr. Köstenberger is passionate about mentoring students. His students serve in strategic ministry positions in the United States and around the world. He and his wife Marny are the parents of two sons and two daughters. Marny is also a published author and holds a Doctor of Theology degree in Systematic Theology from the University of South Africa. Together, Andreas and Marny have written several books on marriage and the family and speak about marriage and parenting in local churches and other settings. They love to travel, help leaders in transition determine next steps (both are Certified Christian Leadership Coaches), and enjoy coffee shops and tea rooms.
