Hosted by Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and Palm Beach Atlantic University, Only Light: An Artistic Journey Commemorating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., includes artistic performances, a musical tribute and awards ceremony
West Palm Beach, FLA. (March 26, 2024) – To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, in collaboration with Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA), is hosting an evening of reflection, inspiration and community on Thursday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at PBA’s DeSantis Family Chapel (300 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach). The event is free and open to the public, however registration is required at jewishpb.org/mlkceremony.
Only Light: An Artistic Journey Commemorating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will provide a poignant journey through the life and teachings of Dr. King, bringing together community members from diverse backgrounds in a celebration of compassion and a collective stand against hatred.
Highlights of the event include:
- Artistic performances: Experience Dr. King’s wisdom through captivating dance and spoken word montages performed by students.
- Musical tribute: Be uplifted by the stirring harmonies of the Young Singers of Palm Beaches.
- Readings of Dr. King’s teachings: Witness the timeless wisdom of Dr. King through readings by Black and Jewish students.
- Tikkun Olam (Repair the World) Awards: Join as we honor three individuals whose actions contribute to creating a tolerant, just and compassionate world in the Palm Beaches.
“In today’s world, marked by increasing hatred and an ongoing struggle for equality, justice and safety, bringing together people of all faiths in a shared commitment against hatred is more critical than ever,” said Michael Hoffman, President and CEO, Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. “We’re proud to share Dr. King’s story with our partners at PBA, not only to honor his remarkable achievements but to ignite a collective responsibility to continue his work today.”
Nathan Chau, Director of Workship at PBA, added, “PBA is honored to pay tribute to the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. In January, we celebrated MLK’s birthday by working together to address the needs of our community. Now, as we commemorate the anniversary of his death, we renew our commitment to be inspired by his legacy and to inspire others in turn. It was on April 4, 55 years ago, that MLK passed on the torch to us to carry into the shadows of our world and to bring hope, love and justice for all.
