Independence Day
When you think of Independence Day, you might think about fireworks, a delicious spread of food, or spending quality time with friends and family. At the core of this day, however, is a celebration of freedom and a chance to honor those who tirelessly serve our country to protect that freedom.
On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress, and the separation of the thirteen American colonies from Great Britain was announced – a new nation was formed: The United States of America.
The Declaration of Independence states that “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” As we celebrate Independence Day this year, let us remember the courage of those who have gone before us, and celebrate the freedom we possess to worship and serve the Lord freely.
