Biography
Dr. Vivian Fernand Narcisse held a chemistry faculty position for more than six years at LeTourneau University (LETU). At LETU she taught various undergraduate courses: general chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, forensic chemistry, and forensic microscopy. Dr. Narcisse also conducted forensic research. During this period, she developed a simple microfluidic paper-based analytical sensor for the detection of illicit drugs. Her graduate research focused mainly on interdisciplinary analytical chemistry in the areas of biochemistry and bio-analytical chemistry. Specifically, her work involved the use of chromatography, spectroscopy, and biochemical methods in the analyses of natural products and angiogenic cancer-related proteins. Upon completion of her graduate studies, she pursued post-doctoral studies in the Laboratory of Nutrient Sensing and Adipocyte Signaling at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her research involved the investigation of the physiological and biological importance of a novel gene and its effect on cellular energy metabolism. After completion of this research project, she continued her postdoctoral studies in the Department of Chemistry at Louisiana State University. She primarily performed investigations in the areas of separation and spectroscopic science while studying the binding interaction between molecular micelles and membrane proteins. She also supervised and mentored both graduate and undergraduate students in chromatography method development, experimental design, bio-analytical techniques, and cell culture. Dr. Narcisse is the recipient of several awards such as the Colgate-Palmolive Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Graduate Mentor Award, and Kiran Allam International Research Award for Outstanding Research and Teaching in Chemistry (LSU). She has published several scientific manuscripts and presented orally and in poster format at professional conferences. Her research interest is in interdisciplinary analytical chemistry with a focus on natural products and forensic science. She is delighted to join Palm Beach Atlantic University.
