Biography

Dr. Mitchell has served in pastoral ministry for 12 years prior to his appointment. He began as a church planter with the Florida Baptist Convention, helping start churches in Orlando and Gainesville, Florida. More recently, he has pastored churches in California and Indiana. He received his ordination from First Baptist Church of Alachua, Florida. He has received induction into both the Pi Sigma Alpha and Kappa Delta Pi honoraries. While completing his doctoral work at the University of Florida, he served as Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach. During his tenure, the team won three SEC championship and one NCAA Championship in 1998. His wife, Lisa, has served in ministry with him, as well as starting Creations Cakes & Catering, a specialized cake decorating and catering business. Matthew and his wife have two kids, Karinne and Garrett.
